Morning Client Visits as an Allied Health Assistant

The bulk of my day is spent visiting clients. These visits are the heart of my role and where I feel I make the most impact as an allied health professional. It’s incredibly rewarding to see their progress over time. Understanding each individual’s goals and needs is crucial during these visits to tailor the examination and treatment approach effectively.

Allied health professionals work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, community health centres, and private practices, to deliver diagnostic, preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services.

As an allied health assistant, I often work as part of a multidisciplinary team, to provide specialised support tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Whether working independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, ensuring that client’s receive comprehensive care is vital.

Administrative Tasks for Healthcare Professionals:

In between client visits, I handle various administrative tasks. This includes creating resources, revising session plans with clinicians, and assisting with any other administrative duties as needed. My previous experience in Credit Management has surprisingly come in handy here, as the organisational and strategic skills I developed are easily transferable to this role.

One of the aspects I love most about being an Allied Health Assistant is the diversity in learning different disciplinary skills and strategies. I get to collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, and other professionals, which allows me to bring together a holistic approach to assisting my clients and their families.

Making a Difference in Lives:

Every day, I strive to make a difference in someone’s life.  It’s amazing how strategies from one career can assist in a totally different role, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to follow my passion for working with children.

Upon reflection of my career as an Allied Health assistant, one instance that stands out is being able to assist a client under the guidance of an OT and Speech Therapist to accept visitors into their house without causing damage, be able to self-regulate and communicate with some one word responses and key word signs over the course of 6 months. We are commencing a trial of an AAC device which introduces many exciting outcomes. Experiences like this truly make working as an allied health professional one that is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, as you witness first-hand the positive impact you have on the lives of your clients and their families.

End of the Day for Healthcare Professionals:

As the day winds down, I reflect on the progress made and prepare for the next day’s challenges. Each day brings new opportunities to learn and grow, both professionally and personally, in a field that includes a variety of inspiring practitioners. My journey as an Allied Health Assistant at LiveBig has been a fulfilling one, and I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the lives of those I work with everyday.
