At LiveBig, being a child safe organisation is not a compliance exercise – it is a core commitment that shapes our culture, behaviours and decision-making. Every day, our teams work to ensure children and young people who interact with our services feel safe, respected, heard and supported.
What Child Safety Means at LiveBig
A child-safe organisation is one with strong values, clear policies and everyday actions that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Child safety is embedded into our culture – not treated as a checkbox – and goes beyond protection to empowerment, ensuring young people feel respected and their voices are heard.
“Child safety is everyone’s responsibility. At LiveBig, we are intentional about creating environments where children and young people feel genuinely safe, respected and empowered – not just protected by policy, but supported by our every action and interaction with children, young people and the people who support them,” says Kate Smith, Head of Risk, Quality & Compliance, Arriba Group, LiveBig’s parent company.
A Clear Strategy with Zero Tolerance for Harm
LiveBig’s child safety strategy is underpinned by zero tolerance for harm. This commitment is outlined in our Statement of Commitment to a Child Safe Organisation and is supported through strong recruitment screening, mandatory child-safe training, clear behavioural expectations in our Code of Conduct, and a strong focus on inclusivity for children and young people with disability and from diverse backgrounds.
This approach ensures child safety is proactive, preventative and consistently reinforced across the organisation.
Guided by National Standards
LiveBig aligns with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, a nationally recognised framework developed following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. These Principles guide our systems and practices, ensuring a robust, child-centred and evidence-based approach to child safety.
Policies That Support Safe Practice
Child safety at LiveBig is supported by a comprehensive policy framework, including our Child Safe Policy, Child and Young Person Risk Management Strategy, Code of Conduct and Health and Safety Incident Management Policy. Together, these policies provide clear expectations, accountability and governance across the organisation.
Child Safety in Everyday Behaviour
Being child safe is about how people show up every day. All LiveBig employees are expected to treat children and young people with respect, put safety and wellbeing first, prevent and report harm, foster inclusive environments, and comply with all child-safe policies and procedures.
Why Child Safety Matters
Children and young people have an absolute right to be safe. Organisations have a legal, ethical and moral responsibility to protect that right. For LiveBig, child safety is also about trust – without it, there is no social licence to operate. A safe culture requires intention, leadership and ongoing effort.
Continuous Improvement
LiveBig measures the effectiveness of its child safety approach through annual self-assessments against the National Principles, regular reviews of recruitment and screening processes, and ongoing policy and risk management improvements.
Recent initiatives include the rollout of dedicated Child Safe training and strengthened recruitment practices. Looking ahead, LiveBig is focused on amplifying the voices of children and young people, ensuring their feedback directly informs service improvement.
A Shared Responsibility
At LiveBig, child safety is everyone’s responsibility. Through strong leadership, clear standards and a culture of care, we are committed to creating safer spaces where children and young people can thrive.
