At LiveBig, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’d like to introduce Sonny, one of our wonderful Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners based in South East Sydney.
What is your role?
Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner
What is a fun fact about you that people may not know?
I like flying drones, science fiction and Bitcoin.
Why did you choose to work in this industry?
I studied psychology at university and was always interested in behavioural science and had passion for supporting the people in my community.
What do you love about your role?
The positive impact we have in our participant’s life and their families.
What does an average day in your role look like?
My average day starts off with some admin preparation for each participant, which can include anything from forecasting appointments and completing notes. As well as the admin, I spend a lot of time going out to visit participants, which means I do a lot of working on the go, from public libraries or my car. Most weeks I will also have assessments to complete, which can be either telehealth sessions or in person. From then I will eventually write a comprehensive behaviour support plan for the participant and support them to implement it.
Can you recall a time when you helped make a difference in someone’s life?
I have run several training sessions with Support Workers which has helped them to understand to understand the participant’s struggle pain and difficulties. By putting the support workers in the participant’s shoes, I was able to help them to provide better support to the people they are working with. By doing this, the support workers have been able to provide a better service and improve the outcomes to participants.
