The beauty of the podcast is that it can be listened to while working, showering, cooking or cleaning – and, in addition to entertaining you, most programmes end up teaching us a thing or two about life, politics, science, art and more.
At LiveBig we particularly like podcasts that give people with disability the opportunity to share their stories and opinions. Fortunately, there are many out there that do just that! Here are our top disability podcasts.
ListenAble
Challenge what you think it’s like to live with disability. Hosts Dylan Alcott and Angus O’Loughlin speak to people living with disabilities about their lives and ask them the questions you thought were off-limits. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll learn something.
Inform Podcast
Inform Podcast is a monthly conversation for people with disabilities, featuring people with disabilities. They ask for advice on all the big topics, from finding work to changing careers, relationships, moving to a new house, dating, playing sport, finding a hobby, caring for pets, navigating the NDIS and more. In addition, Inform speak with industry experts and other organisations doing good work in the disability space in Australia.
Disability Done Different
Listen with hosts, Roland and Evie Naufal as they chat with interesting guests who have carved their own path in the disability sector – revealing battle scars, imparting wisdom and talking straight about their journeys.
This podcast aims to have the kind of conversations that come about when passionate people aren’t afraid to speak their mind.
Reasonable and Necessary: Making Sense of the NDIS
A podcast series hosted by Summer Foundation Policy Manager & disability rights advocate, Dr George Taleporos. Each podcast episode aims to simplify the NDIS for participants, their families and anyone supporting NDIS participants to work their way through the system.
The Accessible Stall
Finally, The Accessible Stall is a disability podcast hosted by Kyle Khachadurian and Emily Ladau that keeps it real about issues within the disability community. Because we each have different disabilities and mobility levels, we approach everything we talk about with two unique viewpoints, offering our listeners a fresh insight into how differences in disability can colour your experiences and perspectives. And we never shy away from offering our honest opinion. Even if they go against the grain of the disability community at large, we always speak our minds.
