Sally*, a vibrant 55-year-old woman living with multiple sclerosis*, placed a high value on her independence and has a strong desire to be active in her community. With a close-knit family and young grandchildren she loves to spend time with, staying mobile and connected is essential for her. But Sally’s old scooter wasn’t meeting her needs; it was challenging to manage alone and lacked the proper support, leaving her in pain and hesitant to use it.
Recognising the impact this had on her life, Sally reached out to LiveBig’s Occupational Therapist, Faye, for assistance in finding the right wheelchair. Faye took the time to assess Sally’s unique needs, factoring in everything from her arm strength and energy levels to the type of surfaces she’d be navigating. Faye also considered the comfort and functionality Sally needed, discussing options like pneumatic tires for outdoor use versus solid tires that wouldn’t risk punctures—a key consideration for maintaining Sally’s independence.
After weighing up all the options, Faye and Sally found a wheelchair that checked all the boxes: comfortable, easy to use, and perfect for her active lifestyle. The new wheelchair has empowered Sally to make the most of her days, allowing her to visit her family, spend more time outdoors, and stay engaged in her community without being limited by discomfort or fatigue.
With her new wheelchair, Sally can now join in on her grandchildren’s activities at the park, go shopping without the worry of pain or exhaustion, and enjoy social events without arriving too tired to participate. It’s a life-changing solution that has not only restored Sally’s independence but also strengthened her connection with her family and friends.
At LiveBig, we’re thrilled to have been part of Sally’s journey, and we’re inspired by her resilience and commitment to living life to the fullest! If you’d like to get in touch with one of our friendly clinicians, you can do so here.
