Amanda explained that “In occupational therapy, occupations refer to the everyday activities that people do as individuals, in families, and with communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life. Occupational therapy enables people to participate in activities they find meaningful. These activities include taking care of oneself (and others), working, volunteering, and participating in hobbies, interests, and social events.”

Occupational therapists at LiveBig play a pivotal role in improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. They work closely with clients, setting specific and achievable goals and providing interventions to enhance their participation in daily activities, foster independence, and improve their overall quality of life.

The scope of the Occupational Therapy team at LiveBig is vast, serving both pediatrics and adults with a wide range of developmental, physical, cognitive, sensory, and psychosocial disabilities. They conduct assessments, devise strategies and therapies, and prescribe assistive devices or home modifications to improve clients’ engagement in everyday tasks, nurturing self-reliance and enhancing overall quality of life.

Being an occupational therapist at LiveBig means making a significant impact on the lives of those with disabilities, promoting their independence and well-being. It’s a rewarding and fulfilling profession that involves working closely with clients and their families to create positive changes and improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Amanda Trist also praises the Sydney Occupational Therapy team, describing them as an “amazing talented group of therapists.” To celebrate Occupational Therapy Week, the team will be attending training sessions on new assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and technology aimed at facilitating independence in daily activities.

As we mark Occupational Therapy Week, let’s recognise the extraordinary work done by occupational therapists at LiveBig and around the world, empowering individuals with disabilities to lead more fulfilling and independent lives.
