At LiveBig, we believe in the power of personalised care and support to transform lives. Through our dedicated team and tailored services, we are proud to share two stories that highlight the positive impact of LiveBig on individuals living with intellectual disabilities.

Meet James, a 16-year-old male living with intellectual disability, global development delay, and anxiety. Placed in youth residential accommodation, he faced significant challenges, including explicit verbal and physical aggression, property damage, and unhygienic behaviours such as urinating in his room. His resistance to engagement was high, with initial sessions marked by withdrawal and even acts of disdain towards activities offered.

Through consistent support and a personalised approach, a breakthrough occurred. LiveBig’s dedicated clinician diligently worked with James and his carers, gradually building rapport and trust. Small steps marked the journey: from pacing around the clinician to hesitant words spoken, progress was evident. A pivotal moment was when James reacted aggressively when the clinician left, indicating a deepening connection and also the need for safety plans.

Today, the transformation is remarkable. James actively participates in activities, engaging with his support team and willingly communicates. Collaborating closely with James’s school and indigenous care team, LiveBig has supported James’ behaviour management and honoured cultural connections, ensuring continuity of care, and fostering a sense of belonging.

As James prepares to relocate to Toowoomba to be closer to family, the LiveBig support will continue with him there, ensuring a smooth transition and ongoing assistance.

In another case, we supported Michelle, a 37-year-old female with intellectual disability, and behaviours of concern taking a toll on her sister’s mental and physical health as her carer. Feeling overwhelmed and on the verge of giving up, her sister found help and renewed optimism through our services.

LiveBig’s expertise and compassionate approach reassured Michelle’s sister and eased her stress. Knowing that Michelle would receive the best support available brought immense relief, and the prospect of staff training provided further assurance.

Beyond the practical support, LiveBig’s availability and empathy became a safe haven. Through open communication and understanding, a positive impact extended beyond Michelle, improving the carers mental well-being and outlook on the future.

With LiveBig’s support, Michelle and her sister now look forward to their journey with NDIS services, and a brighter future filled with possibilities.

These stories describe LiveBig’s commitment to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. Through personalised care, cultural sensitivity, and unwavering support, we strive to create meaningful and lasting change. As we continue to champion inclusion and resilience, we invite you to join us on this journey of support and transform.
